All Things New in Christ
Cleveland is tough as nails, and Ohio City welds that toughness to an independent spirit, which has thrived since its incorporation in 1836, 3 days before the incorporation of the City of Cleveland. With this rootedness, its citizens, small businesses, and institutions band together as the anchor of the Near West Side of Cleveland, pulling together Tremont, Detroit Shoreway, Gordon Square, and Clark Fulton.
People live, work and play in Ohio City because it’s a neighborhood filled with life. Yet, below the surface, Ohio City faces the struggles, divisions, violence, and fractures common to similar urban neighborhoods.
Where do people see and hear that the life they are searching for is fully found in Christ? City Church is a church in Cleveland here to show and tell people in and around Ohio City the good news of all things new in Christ.
The Church Gathered
We are a new church putting down deep roots in the neighborhood.
Now We gather in weekly small groups to care for one another, show hospitality for our neighborhoods, and pray for the church and the city. These groups are always open to guests; join us anytime. We also gather on Sundays as part of our sending church, Heights Church.
Fall 2017 We will gather on Sunday mornings around the tried and true rhythms of the church—prayer, song, confession, reading, preaching, and baptism and communion. Every gathering will focus on the greatness of Jesus and its implications for Christians and non-Christians
The Church Scattered
Church isn’t just an event on Sunday mornings. It’s an identity we carry with us as we scatter throughout the week. We resource and support each of our members to live generously and sacrificially for the good of their neighbor, community, and city.
Churches and organizations in this community have a longstanding reputation for serving the poor. We applaud their work, and we aim to forge new ways of listening to and empowering marginalized people in our community. We want to do the slow work of investing in messy, reciprocal relationships. Why? Because the gospel is the best motivator and the best remedy for both sides of those relationships.
